| Use one word to describe your behaviour at school Studious! I was a bit of a swot but had a cheeky side too. If your life story was set in a book or a film what would it be called? Probably The Retractable Dog Lead – I’ve found that God lets me wander off on my own path for so long then he snaps me back! Tell us about the best holiday you ever had. Every holiday I have ever had in Tolon, Greece, with Laurence, has been wonderful. The people there are fantastic. On our last holiday as we went to pay the hotel bill on the last day, they knocked 160 euros off the price! I burst into tears. It’s amazing who turns up in Tolon too – once we were having dinner in a beachside taverna and spotted Marjorie and Gordon Tose and co. wandering along the beach. On another occasion I was trying to photograph some apartments for a friend when a woman suddenly sat up on her sunbed and said: “Julie Walker?!” It was Wendy Skinner. Name your ideal dinner party guests from any time, any place and why you would choose them. Charlotte Bronte (I love her work and think she would be a super person to chat with), Smith Wigglesworth (simply inspirational), Socrates (for a bit of philosophy), Alkistis Protospalti (a Greek singer – fabulous voice, she could sing for her supper!) and Philip Ader (a shining example of how a Christian should be and live). If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why? The King Minos Hotel in Tolon, Greece, because I love it. The views from the hotel are spectacular, the people in the village are warm and friendly, the food is great and whenever I go there I feel as though I already live there.
Give 3 words to describe yourself. Some would say “off the wall”. Classic interview question – my former boss would describe me as “loyal, hard-working and a team-player!”
If you could take 3 things with you on a desert island what would you take? My Bible, food that won’t go off and if it’s really hot, maybe... a very large crate of iced mineral water and ice cold lager?
Have you met any famous people, if so where? I’ve met quite a few over the years – Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi (Status Quo), Bonnie Langford and Noel Edmonds – all in London through working as a journalist, plus Cilla Black and Ken Dodd in Halifax - through working for the local newspaper. I met the Queen as a schoolgirl when she opened the Halifax Building Society headquarters and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace when I received the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Ken Dodd was really nice – he gave me an autographed tickling stick!
Do you have a favourite song/piece of music and why?My favourite Christian song is My Jesus, My Saviour – it just sums up how I feel about Jesus. I’d really like it at my funeral. I also enjoy listening to music by Def Leppard – I like dancing to it - and would really like the track Animal blasting out from my white stretch limo hearse on the way to my funeral, flanked by four or six Harley-Davidsons. If you (could do it all again) did it all again would you do anything different? Hindsight is a great teacher. We have all done things in the past that we regret - but these experiences have helped to build us into what we are now. If I could turn back the clock I would spend more time with my family and friends.
Do you have a top tip to share? To ease the irritation of itchy mosquito/midge bites, simple rub the bites with a piece of raw onion. It does help! Smells a bit but hey ho! |
